If you want your child to have the top-notch smile they deserve, then it’s important to properly and effectively clean their teeth and gums regularly. This means you need to help your child keep up on oral hygiene. However, oral hygiene is only effective if you use the right tools. So, today our dentists, Dr. Samuel Bailey and Dr. JD Reimschissel, would like to tell you all about how to select the right toothpaste for your child. When you’re at the store, it’s best to choose a:

-Toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association: If the toothpaste has the ADA Seal of Approval, then that means it’s safe and effective in an oral hygiene routine. This is a great way to ensure the product won’t harm or damage the tooth or gums.

-Toothpaste that is safe to swallow: Regular toothpaste can make your child’s stomach upset if they swallow it. So, if your child still swallows toothpaste instead of spitting it out when they are done brushing, then it’s best to get swallow-safe toothpaste.

-Toothpaste that doesn’t have fluoride: Your child should get enough fluoride in the foods and water they consume throughout the day. Any more fluoride can harm the teeth and cause a problem called fluorosis. So, it’s best to stay away from fluoride toothpaste until your dentist says otherwise.
